Why Am I Being Charged by Squarespace?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 2:17 am

As a general rule, we don’t charge for Squarespace unless you’re using a paid plan or purchasing a domain. However, there are a few other reasons why you may see a charge on your credit card statement.

Paid Plan

If you’re using a paid plan, you’ll be charged automatically every month or year, depending on the billing interval you chose when you signed up. You can view your billing interval and next payment date from your Billing Settings.

Domain

If you purchase a domain from Squarespace, we’ll charge you the amount shown in your shopping cart at checkout. Domains purchased through Squarespace are renewed automatically every year, and you’ll be charged the then-current rate at the time of renewal. You can view your domain’s renewal date from your Domain Settings.

G Suite or Email by Google

If you sign up for G Suite or Email by Google through Squarespace, we’ll bill you monthly or yearly, depending on the billing interval you chose when you signed up. Your first charge will include any prorated amount for the current month, plus the next month or year in full. You can view your billing interval and next payment date from your Site Manager > Settings > Billing & Account > G Suite Account.

Third-Party Services

If you use certain integrations and third-party services with Squarespace, we may need to pass along transaction fees we’re charged. For example:

  • Apple In-App Purchases for iOS Apps: If you use Apple In-App Purchases to buy a paid plan or domain on your iOS device, Apple charges us a 30% transaction fee. To help offset this fee, we charge an additional 3% for these purchases.
  • Stripe: If use Stripe to process payments on an eCommerce store, Stripe charges us 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. We don’t pass along this fee to customers using Personal plans.
  • PayPal: If use PayPal to process payments on an eCommerce store, PayPal charges us 2.

Refunds

We issue refunds for annual plans within 14 days of purchase, and for monthly plans within 48 hours of cancellation.

PRO TIP: If you see a charge from Squarespace on your credit card or bank statement, it’s likely that you or someone on your team has signed up for a Squarespace account.

If you didn’t sign up for a Squarespace account and believe that someone may have used your payment information without your permission, we recommend that you take the following steps:

-Immediately change your password on any other accounts where you use the same or similar password.
-Contact your credit card company or bank to let them know about the unauthorized charge and follow their instructions.
-Monitor your credit report for signs of identity theft.

.

The main reasons why someone would be charged by Squarespace are because they are either using a paid plan, have purchased a domain from Squarespace, or are using G Suite or Email by Google through Squarespace. There are also some circumstances where third-party services that are used in conjunction with Squarespace may incur additional fees that are then passed on to the customer. Finally, refunds for annual plans are available within 14 days of purchase while refunds for monthly plans are available within 48 hours of cancellation.
