Why Can’t I Fix Position When Scrolling Figma?

Figma is a great design tool, but one thing that can be frustrating is the inability to fix position when scrolling. This means that if you have an object at the top of your screen and you scroll down, the object will move down with the rest of the content. This can be a problem if you’re trying to keep track of where something is on the screen.

1. Using the Constraints Feature

There are a few workarounds for this issue. One is to use the “Constraints” feature in Figma which can be found under the Design tab on the right panel. This will allow you to keep an object in place even when you scroll.

2. Using the Inspect Feature of your Browser

Another workaround is to use Google Chrome’s “Inspect” feature. Simply right-click on your Figma web application (not the design itself) and a list of options, including the Inspect feature at the bottom part, will appear.

NOTE: You can also use other browsers. Also, be aware that this can only be used with Figma’s web application version.

This will let you see the HTML code for your design, and you can then add code to fix the position of an object.

PRO TIP: If you are experiencing issues with fixing position when scrolling in Figma, it is likely due to one of two things: either your project’s settings are not compatible with the Scroll setting, or there is an issue with your browser.

To check if your project’s settings are the issue, go to File > Help and Account. In the menu that will appear, you can check your Account Settings or proceed to the Help Page to check for tutorials to prevent scrolling. If this does not solve the problem, try refreshing your browser or opening Figma in a different browser.

However, neither of these workarounds is perfect. The “Constraints” feature can be a bit finicky, and it’s not always easy to remember to use it.

On the other hand, the “Inspect” feature may not work for all browsers. It is recommended to use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, but if you’re not comfortable working with HTML code, then you’re out of luck.

The bottom line is that there’s no perfect solution for fixing position when scrolling in Figma. But there are a few workarounds that can help make it a bit easier to work with.
