Why Can’t I Liquify in Photoshop?

Last updated on February 24, 2023 @ 10:59 am

There are a few reasons why you might not be able to liquify in Photoshop. One reason could be that your Photoshop version is too old – the liquify tool was first introduced in CS6.

Another possibility is that your file isn’t in the right format – it needs to be a smart object, layer, or shape in order to use the liquify tool. Finally, you may not have enough RAM installed on your computer to support the tool.

PRO TIP: If you are trying to liquify an image in Photoshop and it is not working, it is likely because the image is on a locked layer. To fix this, simply unlock the layer by double-clicking on it in the Layers panel.

If you’re still having trouble using the liquify tool, there are a few things you can try. First, make sure you’re using the latest version of Photoshop.

Install a latest version of Photoshop

If that doesn’t work, try converting your file to a smart object, layer, or shape. Simply, select the layers you want to liquify, right click then in the pop-up menu, click the “Convert to Smart Object” option.

Then go to the “Filter” menu and click “Liquify.” Your Liquify tool successfully works if there is no pop-up error message hindering you to access the liquify settings.

Go to Photoshop Filter menu and click the Liquify tool

Finally, in the Liquify dialog box, adjust the settings to your preferences and click “OK” to save the changes.

If you’re still having issues, try increasing the amount of RAM on your computer. You can find the RAM information in your computer’s “About Settings.” The higher, the better.

Go to your computer's About Settings and find your installed RAM information

The Liquify tool is a powerful tool that can help you create amazing images. If you’re having trouble using it, make sure you’re using the latest version of Photoshop and that your file is in the right format. You may also need to increase the amount of RAM on your computer.
