Why Did Squarespace Acquire Tock?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 10:00 am

On February 3, 2020, Squarespace announced its acquisition of Tock, a reservation and ticketing system for restaurants and other businesses. The acquisition is a part of Squarespace’s ongoing mission to make it easy for anyone to start and grow their business online.

Tock was founded in 2014 by Justin Bayer and Nick Kokonas. The company’s goal is to help businesses take control of their reservations and ticketing, and to provide a better experience for customers. Tock has been used by some of the world’s most acclaimed restaurants, including Alinea, The French Laundry, and Momofuku.

PRO TIP: We’re excited to announce that Squarespace has acquired Tock, the leading technology platform for restaurants, wineries, and other reservation-based businesses. This acquisition will allow us to better serve our customers by offering a complete solution for businesses that need to take and manage reservations.

While we’re thrilled about this acquisition, we want to make sure that our customers understand that Tock is a separate company from Squarespace. Tock will continue to operate as a standalone business, and there are no immediate changes to how Tock works.

We encourage our customers to continue using Tock as they always have, and we’ll provide more information about how this acquisition will benefit our customers in the future.

Squarespace has been working to expand its platform to include more tools for businesses. In 2019, the company launched Squarespace Commerce, a powerful eCommerce platform that makes it easy to sell online. The acquisition of Tock will add another important piece to Squarespace’s platform, and will help businesses of all sizes take control of their reservations and ticketing.

The acquisition is also a part of Squarespace’s larger mission to make it easy for anyone to start and grow their business online. By expanding its platform to include more tools for businesses, Squarespace is making it easier than ever for businesses to get started and grow their online presence.
