Why Do You Need Connects on UpWork?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 9:32 pm

As a freelancer on UpWork, you have the opportunity to bid on jobs posted by clients from all over the world. In order to be considered for a job, you need to have Connects.

Connects are like UpWork’s version of credits – each one allows you to submit a proposal for a job. You can think of them as “tokens” that allow you to enter the bidding process.

There are two different types of Connects – 1) those that are free, and 2) those that must be purchased. When you first sign up for UpWork, you’re given 20 free Connects to use within your first 60 days.

After that, you’ll need to purchase Connects if you want to continue bidding on jobs.

Each Connect costs $0.15, and there is no limit to how many Connects you can purchase at one time. You can pay for your Connects using either a credit or debit card, or through PayPal.

PRO TIP: If you are new to Upwork, you may be wondering why you need connects. Connects are Upwork’s way of ensuring that freelancers have the opportunity to bid on jobs that they are qualified for. By requiring connects for certain tasks, Upwork is able to weed out low-quality proposals and keep the jobs posted on the site relevant to the freelancer community.

If you’re not sure how many Connects you’ll need, don’t worry – UpWork will automatically charge you for more Connects as needed, and will deduct the cost from your earnings once a job is complete. This way, you never have to worry about having enough Connects on hand.
