Why Does Wix Say Not Secure?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 8:49 am

When you visit a website, your browser checks to see if the site is secure. If it is, you’ll see a padlock icon in the address bar.

If it isn’t, you’ll see a warning that the site isn’t secure. Wix websites show a warning in the address bar that says “Not Secure”.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

Wix doesn’t use SSL certificates for free sites. This is because free sites are hosted on a shared server, which means that the server’s resources are shared among all of the websites on that server. To get an SSL certificate, you need to have a dedicated IP address, which is only available on Wix’s paid plans.

PRO TIP: If you are using Wix to create a website, you may have noticed that the URL for your site includes the word “not secure.” This is because Wix websites are not currently compatible with SSL certificates, which are necessary to create a secure website. While Wix is working on making their platform compatible with SSL certificates, in the meantime, your website will remain “not secure.” This means that any information entered on your website, including passwords and credit card information, could be intercepted by third parties. If you are concerned about the security of your website, you may want to consider using another platform until Wix has made their platform compatible with SSL certificates.

If you’re using a free Wix site, your site isn’t going to be as secure as it could be. However, there are some things you can do to make your site more secure:

  • Choose a strong password: A strong password is at least 8 characters long and includes a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

Avoid using easily guessed words like your name or birthday.

  • Don’t use the same password for all of your accounts: If someone gets access to one of your accounts, they’ll have access to all of them if you’re using the same password. Use a different password for each of your accounts.
  • Keep your software up to date: Outdated software can have security holes that attackers can exploit. Make sure you’re using the latest version of your browser and any other software you have installed on your computer.

Conclusion:

While Wix sites may not be as secure as those with SSL certificates, there are still steps users can take to increase security such as choosing strong passwords and keeping software up to date.
