Why Is My Payout Pending on Shopify?

Last updated on January 12, 2023 @ 9:49 am

If you’re a Shopify merchant, you may have noticed that your payout is “pending.” But what does that mean? And why is it happening?

When you make a sale on Shopify, the money from that sale is transferred to your Shopify account. From there, it can be transferred to your bank account.

However, sometimes the money will stay in your Shopify account as “pending. ”

There are a few reasons why this might happen:

  • The transaction is being reviewed. When a transaction is first made, Shopify will put a hold on the funds for a short period of time while they review it. This is to make sure that everything is legitimate and to protect both the buyer and the seller.
  • The payment method was declined.

If the buyer’s payment method was declined, the funds will stay in your Shopify account until the buyer updates their payment information or chooses another payment method.

  • You need to verify your identity. In some cases, Shopify may need you to verify your identity before they release the funds to you. This is usually done by providing some form of identification, like a driver’s license or passport.

If your payout is pending, don’t worry – it’s not unusual. In most cases, the funds will be released within a few days. If it’s been longer than that, or if you’re not sure why your payout is pending, you can always contact Shopify support for more help.
