Why is my pressure sensitivity not working in Illustrator?

Illustrator is a great tool for creating professional drawings and illustrations, but one downside is that it doesn’t natively support pressure sensitivity. If you’re using a mouse, you can adjust the sensitivity by clicking and dragging the blue sensitivity bar in the upper left corner of the Illustrator window. If you’re using a graphics tablet, you’ll need to purchase a pressure-sensitive pen or brush. Illustrator does have a feature called “Stroke Options” that lets you create drawings with pressure sensitivity, but it’s not as accurate or user-friendly as using a pressure-sensitive pen or brush.

PRO TIP: If you experience pressure sensitivity issues in Adobe Illustrator, it may be due to a problem with your tablet or stylus. Pressure sensitivity allows you to control the width of your brush strokes by how hard you press on your tablet or stylus. If you find that your pressure sensitivity is not working properly, try the following:

1. Make sure that you are using a compatible tablet or stylus. Check the list of supported tablets and styluses on Adobe’s website.

2. Restart your computer. Sometimes pressure sensitivity issues can be resolved by simply restarting your machine.

3. Update your tablet or stylus drivers. Out-of-date drivers can cause pressure sensitivity problems. Consult your tablet or stylus manufacturer’s website for instructions on how to update your drivers.

4. Adjust your pressure sensitivity settings. In Illustrator, go to Edit > Preferences > Input Devices and make sure that the Pressure Sensitivity option is set to Pen Pressure. You can also adjust the pressure curve to suit your preferences.

If you’re using a graphics tablet, it’s best to use a pressure-sensitive pen or brush to get the most accurate results. If you’re using a mouse, you’ll likely get better results by adjusting the sensitivity in Illustrator, but Stroke Options can be helpful if you need to create a drawing with a specific pressure sensitivity.
