Why Is My Squarespace Website Saying Not Secure?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 12:16 am

If you’re using Google Chrome and visit a website that isn’t using an HTTPS connection, you’ll see a “Not Secure” message in the address bar. This is because Chrome implements a security feature called “mark non-secure origins as non-secure.”

Websites that don’t use HTTPS are less secure because they don’t have the same encryption that HTTPS connections do. This means that if someone were to intercept the connection between your browser and the website, they could potentially see or even modify the data being sent.

Fortunately, it’s easy to switch your website to HTTPS. If you’re using Squarespace, you can enable HTTPS for your site in just a few clicks. Once you’ve done this, visitors to your site will see a “Secure” message in the address bar, indicating that their connection is encrypted and their information is safe.

PRO TIP: If you are seeing a “Not Secure” warning in your browser when visiting a Squarespace site, it’s likely because the site is not configured to use HTTPS. HTTPS is a protocol that encrypts and secures communication between your browser and the website you’re visiting.

Squarespace sites can be configured to use HTTPS, but it must be enabled by the site owner. If you’re visiting a Squarespace site that you don’t own and you see a “Not Secure” warning, please contact the site owner and ask them to enable HTTPS.

To enable HTTPS on your Squarespace site:

1. Log into your Squarespace account and go to Settings.
2.

In the Security section, select SSL.
3. Choose whether to enable SSL for all pages on your site or just certain pages.
4. Click Save.

Enabling SSL for your website not only helps to keep your visitors’ information safe, but it can also have a positive effect on your search engine ranking. Google has stated that they give preference to websites that use HTTPS, so switching to SSL could help your site’s visibility in search results.

Conclusion:

Switching your Squarespace website to HTTPS is a quick and easy way to increase security and improve your site’s ranking in search results. If you’re not already using SSL, we highly recommend enabling it for all pages on your site.
