Why Is My UpWork Contract on Hold?

Last updated on September 30, 2022 @ 10:25 am

As an UpWork freelancer, you’re always looking for new contracts to keep the bills paid and food on the table. But what do you do when one of your current contracts is suddenly placed on hold?

There could be a number of reasons why your contract is on hold. The first thing you should do is reach out to your client and ask why. They may have simply forgotten to approve your work, or there may be a larger issue at play.

If your client doesn’t respond, or if their response isn’t satisfactory, you can reach out to UpWork’s support team for help. Include as much information as possible in your support request, such as the contract ID, the dates of work completed, and any relevant messages from your client.

PRO TIP: If your Upwork contract is on hold, it may be because you have not been active on the site for a while. To avoid having your account suspended, be sure to log in and work on your projects regularly.

UpWork’s support team will investigate the situation and take appropriate action. In some cases, they may release the funds that are being held on your contract. In other cases, they may suspend or cancel the contract entirely.

If your contract is cancelled, don’t despair. There are plenty of other fish in the sea, and you can always try again with a different client. Just remember to read the fine print next time so that you know what you’re getting into!
