Why Is My Wix Domain Locked?

If you’re a Wix user, you may have noticed that your domain is locked. This is because Wix automatically locks all domains that are connected to Wix sites.Domain locking is a security measure that helps protect your domain from unauthorized transfers. If your domain is locked, it can only be transferred with the approval of the current registrar (in this case, Wix).

There are a few reasons why your Wix domain might be locked:

PRO TIP: If your Wix domain is locked, it means that it cannot be transferred to another registrar. This is usually done by Wix in order to protect your account and domain from unauthorized changes. If you need to transfer your domain to another registrar, you will need to contact Wix and request that they unlock it for you.
  • You just created your Wix site and connected a custom domain to it. In this case, the lock will be automatically removed after 72 hours.
  • You made changes to your DNS settings. Wix automatically locks domains that have their DNS settings modified to prevent unauthorized changes.
  • You contacted Wix Support and requested that your domain be locked for security reasons.

If you need to transfer your domain away from Wix before the lock is removed, you can contact Wix Support to request an unlock. Please note that you will need to provide proof of ownership of the domain in order to have it unlocked.
