Why Is My Wix Site Saying Not Secure?

Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 3:18 am

If you’re using Wix to create your website, you may have noticed that the site says “Not Secure” in the address bar. This is because Wix doesn’t currently offer SSL certificates for free.

SSL certificates are what allow your website to have a secure connection, and they’re important if you’re selling products or taking payments on your site. While Wix doesn’t offer SSL certificates for free, there are a few ways to add one to your site.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

The first way to add an SSL certificate to your Wix site is to upgrade to a paid plan. Wix’s paid plans start at $4.50 per month, and they include a free SSL certificate.

To upgrade to a paid plan, log in to your Wix account and click “Upgrade” in the top bar. Then, choose the plan that’s right for you and follow the instructions to upgrade.

If you don’t want to upgrade to a paid plan, you can purchase an SSL certificate from a third-party provider and then connect it to your Wix site. To do this, you’ll need to generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) from your Wix account. Once you have your CSR, you can purchase an SSL certificate from any provider (we recommend Namecheap, since they’re one of the most affordable providers).

Once you have your certificate, log in to your Wix account and go to “Settings.” Click “Security,” then scroll down and click “Advanced Settings.” Under “SSL Certificate,” click “Upload Certificate” and follow the instructions.

PRO TIP: If you see a message that says “Not Secure” in your browser’s address bar, it means that your connection to the website is not secure. This can happen for a number of reasons, but the most common reason is that the website is not using a secure (https) connection.

When you visit a website, your browser sends a request to the server that hosts the website. The server then sends back the website’s content. If the connection between your browser and the server is not secure, anyone who intercepts the communication could read or change the data being sent.

To make sure that your connection is secure, look for a padlock icon in your browser’s address bar. If you see this icon, it means that the connection is encrypted and secure.

If you don’t want to purchase an SSL certificate or upgrade to a paid plan, there’s one other way to add HTTPS to your site: by using Cloudflare. Cloudflare is a free service that offers HTTPS protection for websites. To use Cloudflare with your Wix site, sign up for a free account at Cloudflare.com. Then, follow the instructions on their website to add your site.

Once your site is added, go back to the Cloudflare dashboard and click on the “Crypto” tab. Under “SSL,” choose “Full (strict).” This will enable HTTPS on your site.
