Why Is My Wix Website Saying Not Secure?

Last updated on January 6, 2023 @ 4:16 pm

If you’ve ever seen a “Not Secure” warning in your browser’s address bar while visiting a website, you may have wondered why. These warnings appear when a site is not using an encrypted connection, and they’re becoming more common as browsers get better at protecting users’ data.

When you visit a website, your browser sends a request to the server that hosts the site. The server then sends back the website’s content. This communication happens over what’s called an HTTP connection.

GREAT NEWS:

Exciting update! We've collaborated with Wix to offer WBI users with a free plan for all website creation needs - Explore the details here.

HTTP stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol. It’s the protocol that’s used to transfer data on the web. HTTP has been around for a long time, and it’s not very secure.

That’s why a more secure version of HTTP was developed: HTTPS. HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. It’s the same protocol as HTTP, but with one important difference: HTTPS uses encryption to protect data as it travels between your browser and the server.

When a website uses HTTPS, you can tell because the address starts with https:// instead of just http://. You might also see a green padlock icon in your browser’s address bar. These are both indications that the site you’re visiting is using HTTPS and is therefore more secure.

PRO TIP: If you see a message that says “Not Secure” in your browser’s address bar, it means that your connection to the website is not secure. This can happen for a number of reasons, but the most common reason is that the website is not using a secure protocol (HTTPS).

To fix this, you can try one of the following:

• Contact the website owner and ask them to switch to a secure protocol.

• Use a different browser that supports HTTPS.

• Use a proxy server that supports HTTPS.
